At the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Split (FESB), an HEP employee is conducting a doctoral thesis dedicated to the development of an innovative measurement method based on fiber optic technology. Our company STE is also actively participating in this research process, through the mentoring and professional support of Petar Bašić, PhD, the industrial mentor of the dissertation, especially in the part of fiber optic and optical measurements.

This is a new fiber-optic method for measuring vibrations in machines, which, unlike classic electronic methods, brings many advantages. Since it is a so-called non-destructive non-contact test (NDT), there is no need for mechanical interventions and influences on the machine, the integrity is not violated or the mechanical characteristics of the object being measured are changed, and measurements can be performed from a distance. It is precisely this non-invasiveness that makes the method interesting for machine owners and managers, which makes it easier to obtain permits for measurements.

In the future, we expect further development of this method not only in application in rotating machines, but also in other objects and systems whose condition can be determined by precise vibration measurement.

By participating in the mentoring of this doctorate, we confirm our activity in accordance with the mission of our company, according to which science applied in industry brings the best results in designing and proposing innovative concepts adapted to the requirements of modern industry.
